Change starts with community

Passport to Change is a student-led organization that promotes stability, nourishment, and opportunity for those students who are in foster care, experiencing homelessness, or other barriers. We convert our individual stories into action through survival initiatives, advocacy, and community support.

Changes we hope to make

  • University mutual aid hubs.
  • Survival programs.
  • Student voices that protect the Passport funding and emphasize lived experience in policy.

Built with and for Students

Community leadership, safety, and trust are the foundation of everything we do. We value life experience, eliminate barriers, and create educational pathways to ensure success.

Community First

Built together with youth who have actually gone through foster care and homelessness.

Pathways to Degrees

Advocacy for scholarships, emergency funding, and support services to maintain enrollment.

Belonging & Leadership

Peer mentor programs, student commissions, and chapters run by students.

Transforming Lives, Building Futures

The Butterfly Effect, an artistic collective, will produce a film documenting how students manage instability and advocate for equal opportunities for education through the fiscal sponsorship of Passport to Change.

Latest event: Stop the Ban on the Health Sciences Building

October 10, 2026 • 1:00 PM • Health Sciences Building, J-Wing side

On World Homeless Day we rallied against UW blocking access to the Health Sciences Building K-Wing, whose showers and kitchenettes students experiencing homelessness rely on. Closing them in the name of "security" punishes poverty instead of addressing its causes. Endorsed by SDS at UW and fellow student organizations.
